Frequently asked questions and answers

Country Retreat

I have not been to Country Retreat before, can I inspect prior to booking? Yes, we welcome visitors but preferably outside of peak periods, so as not to unduly disturb our boarders. Please arrange a time that is convenient for you and us.

Do I need to book in advance? Yes, the Cattery & Kennel do book up quickly, - especially at weekends and school holidays.

Why are there only certain opening times? This is for the comfort of our boarders and allows us more free time with them.

May I bring my dog in just before closing? We prefer first time dog boarders to arrive before 4pm and earlier if possible. This gives your pet time to become settled before bedtime. Regular boarders may arrive up to 5.30pm

Do you charge by the day? We open at 8.30am and arrival day is charged as a full day, regardless of the time of arrival. The next day charge begins at 10am the following morning.

What is the method of payment? Payment is on arrival by cash, cheque or Eftpos. We do not accept Credit Cards.

How old must my pet be to stay? At least four months and fully vaccinated.

Can I provide their food? We are happy to feed special diets provided by you. However there is not a reduction in boarding fees as it actually causes more work.

Will you give my pet its medication? Yes, at no extra charge, but your pet will not be accepted if in serious ill health, or has a contagious disease or condition. Please advise us of all medical problems when booking.

Can you collect and deliver my pet? Yes, depending on the distance arrangements can be made for us to collect and deliver your pets home at an additional charge.

May I bring my pet's blanket and toy? Please do! We wish this to be a home away from home, but remember we are not responsible for these items!

Will my dog play with the others? We have different playgroups in which the dogs can have a run and play with each other. However, this is only if you agree and if we think the dog is suitable for a certain playgroup. Playgroups are under constant supervision.

Won't my pet be lonely? The layout of our facility provides companionship. There is plenty for them to watch, lots of play times, and human company as well.

I have two pets, can they stay together? Definitely, subject to availability, we can accommodate up to 3 pets in the same sleeping quarters together (dogs and cats separate of course!).

Can you send me photos by email? Most definitely, we think it is a lovely way of reassuring you that your pet is happy and in good care whilst you are away. We also have a Facebook page, on which we regularly place pictures of the daily activities at Country Retreat.

What if my pet becomes ill? We keep a close eye on all our boarders and will act quickly if we suspect your pet is unwell. If possible we will consult your own vet, but we do have a vet on call 24 hours a day if needed.
